'The News'

THAT'S GREAT COMIC TIMING
Me And My Girl - Ferneham Hall

Cor blimey, guv'nor, they put on a good show.

Youngsters from Portsmouth-based theatre company Stage One wowed a near full-house audience with their performance of the musical about a barrow boy who is elevated to an earldom - and the girl he leaves behind.

While the show tends to suffer from a week plot the youngsters more than compensated with great comic timing for the jokes. And the famous song and dance routines, such as Lambeth Walk and Leaning On A Lamp-Post were given the strong performances they deserve. While many in the audience sang along, the cast certainly didn't need any help.

Tyler Davis - Smith, 16, put on a typically over-the-top performance as cheeky cockney hero Bill Snibson and admirably kept up his London accent throughout the show, even while singing. Also standing out with entertaining performances were Susanna Barrett, 16, as his down-to-earth girlfriend, Sally Smith; Paul Clements, 18, as the foppish Gerald, and Lauren Gollege, 16, as the feisty Lady Jacqueline.
