In the small town of Bomont dancing has become outlawed, a state of affairs big city transplant Ren McCormack sets out to overturn.
Chris Hutton brought a looselimbed charm and a
glimmer of the character’s vulnerability to the role of the can’t keep still Ren.
Ellie Jones has good stage presence and used her beautiful big singing voice to great effect as the rebellious preacher’s daughter Ariel. There was sterling support, in particular from Matt Fisher (Willard) and Connie Powell (Rusty) who made an entertaining and engaging duo.
Matt Jarvis (Reverend Moore) and Gilly Williams (Mrs Moore) brought gravitas to their roles and were extremely touching in their reconciliation scenes.
Although pacing was sometimes impeded by constant scene changes, the production had flair and built up to an exhilarating climax. The set was impressive and the use of lighting well done. This was a lively, enjoyable experience.
